Treatments:
The only treatment for AAA is surgery. The usual treatment is by open surgery, replacing the aorta with a polyester (plastic) graft. There is a new technique that is currently causing a lot of interest called endovascular repair (or aneurysm stenting).
The whole idea of repairing AAA is to try to prevent death by repairing the AAA before it ruptures. Therefore one has to balance the risks of surgery and the outcomes of surgery against the risks of NOT operating.
